Rental car crash? Follow these steps

Tourists need to get around somehow, and many utilize rental cars. Plenty of locals rely on rental cars when they need to leave their vehicles in the shop for a few days. In the unfortunate event you end up in a car crash in a rental car, it is critical you follow specific steps to protect yourself in a possible court case. 

Make sure everything and everyone is all right

First, you need to assess the situation. If another car is in play, then you should check in with the other people. You may need to call an ambulance if anyone sustained serious injuries. No matter what, you need to contact the police to file an official report. While you wait for the police, you can take account of the scene. Make sure you get the other driver’s insurance information. You should also take pictures of both vehicles and the surrounding area. 

Call the rental company

You want to inform the rental company of what happened. Hopefully, you got insurance from the rental company, as this helps immensely in these situations. If the car is still operable, then you should drive it back to the company. Inform the agent if you cannot drive the car, and the company will send someone out to retrieve the vehicle. 

See a doctor, and call your insurance agency

You should see a doctor within 24 hours of the crash, just to make sure everything is all right. You also want to get in touch with your insurance agency within 24 hours. It is ideal to start a claim as soon as possible. Additionally, you may need to file a claim with the rental car company. Make sure you ask what paperwork you need from them promptly.
