Is this a sign of a TBI?
Request a Free ConsultationAfter suffering from a blow to the head, it is entirely possible and even probable to suffer from a traumatic brain injury accordingly.
Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can vary from moderate to severe, but should always get immediate medical attention. Thus, it is important to understand what a TBI can look like.
Physical signs
Medline Plus discusses the potential signs of a traumatic brain injury. TBIs differ based on several factors, including but not limited to the overall health of the victim, the area of the head that suffered from a blow, and the strength and weight behind that blow.
Symptoms typically appear in one of three ways: physical, behavioral or emotional, and mental. Physically speaking, some people may pass out or fall into a coma if the damage is bad enough. Others will black out for a short period. Headaches and tinnitus are common side effects, too.
Behavioral or emotional signs
Behaviorally and emotionally, a victim may seem incredibly distressed and emotionally volatile. Many will lash out against those nearest to them, whether friends or strangers. They may behave in strangely childish ways, or in ways that simply appear out of character.
Mental signs
Mentally, the biggest and most notable impact usually involves memory loss of a description. Many victims cannot recall where they are, where they were going, who they are with, or any fine details of the events leading up to the head injury. In most cases, this amnesia will lessen with time, though some victims of TBIs may experience persistent memory problems throughout their lives.
If it seems a person has suffered from a head injury in any way, it is best to seek immediate medical attention to help prevent long-term damages from occurring.
